As the sun sets, the reserve transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of colors, providing the perfect backdrop for your first evening in this wildlife paradise.

Upon arrival, you will check in at the camp, a tranquil haven that beautifully reflects its natural surroundings while offering generous comfort. Lunch will follow, after which you’ll be directed to your luxurious tents. Take some time to unwind and soak in the serene environment before setting off for an afternoon game drive in the conservancy.

During your game viewing, you’ll encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including zebras, lions, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, oryx, elands, baboons, black-faced monkeys, reticulated giraffes, Cape buffaloes, impalas, cheetahs, and elephants. With over 500 bird species recorded, Ol Pejeta is truly a paradise for birdwatchers.

While at the conservancy, consider visiting Baraka (meaning “Blessing” in Swahili), the blind rhino. Baraka lost his right eye while defending his territory and later developed cataracts, yet he continues to thrive in the sanctuary.

Additionally, you can book various activities directly with the camp, such as the unique “Riding with Rhinos” experience—a one-hour adventure within a predator-free enclosure alongside the last two remaining northern white rhinos, Najin and Fatu, who share a special bond.

Later, enjoy a delicious dinner at the camp, followed by an overnight stay, where you can reflect on the day’s adventures amidst the soothing sounds of the wild.

Lake Nakuru National Park is renowned for its significant populations of both Black and White Rhinos. The park is also a sanctuary for the rare and endangered Rothschild giraffe, introduced in 1977 as part of conservation efforts. Currently, fewer than 100 Rothschild giraffes roam the area, often seen browsing among the yellow-backed acacia trees.

In addition to giraffes, the park is teeming with wildlife, including zebras, lions, buffaloes, baboons, monkeys, waterbucks, impalas, gazelles, leopards, and hippopotamuses. Notably, elephants are absent from the park, primarily due to its size and its proximity to the town of Lake Nakuru.

As the sun sets, you’ll experience your first night at the base of the Great Rift Valley, where the cool evening breeze from the lake creates a serene atmosphere, perfect for reflecting on the day’s adventures.

For a more immersive experience, consider a walking safari, available for the more adventurous guests. This is a fantastic way to explore the African bush up close, allowing you to discover the sights, smells, and sounds of the wilderness as nature intended. An experienced and knowledgeable armed ranger will accompany you, offering insights into the ecosystem and its inhabitants. The walk can start from the camp or lodge and either end at a scenic sundowner point or return to your accommodations. Please confirm with your lodge or camp whether a walking safari is an available option.
